Happy Halloween! This week at Summit is "spooky creed week". Creed week is a Summit tradition that dates back over 2 decades. In that time it has evolved and improved, but one thing has remained constant. That is that we serve all students who attend Summit breakfast with aebleskivers. Those not familiar, they are a traditional Scandinavian breakfast dish which taste like a pancake rolled in a ball. This year we are continuing the tradition of serving all Summit students breakfast, including aebleskivers, along with many activities which center around our Summit student creed for success in school and a happy life. We hope that all students memorize the creed, but we know that isn't always possible. We do discuss the mantras within the creed including integrity, lifelong learning, personal growth, choices, good citizenship, respect, service, overcoming adversity and developing a life of value and meaning.
This year our creed week takes on a spooky theme as it is halloween this week. Friday we will have our tradition of "Happy Halloweener" where we will serve all students a hot dog to celebrate the season. This tradition began in 2006 and has continued uninterrupted through the years.
We love our culture at Summit and hope that each of your students are able to come to love Summit because of the caring staff and the positive culture we provide for all students.

Calendar Items
After school activities are in full bloom at Summit. Each week we go mountain biking on Mondays, playing volleyball(it was pickleball but now with cooler weather is indoor volleyball) and D&D on Tuesdays, and bowling on Thursdays. These activities are free of charge to all students, but they must fill out a permission form in order to attend. Also, transportation must be arranged for after the activity. Each of these typically run until 3:30pm.
We are also continuing our tradition of taking field trips during the school day. We have taken students fly fishing, taking water samples at Utah lake, and hiking in the canyons. These have all been amazing activities that the students are enjoying but also learning something. Many more during school field trips are being scheduled this school year.
Next week we have the opportunity to take students to the Capitol Reef Field Station. This is owned by UVU and they have been generous enough to let Summit take students a few times each year to experience this educational and outdoor experiential learning experience. Students leave on Monday and return on Thursday and in addition to hiking, star gazing, and other outdoor activities, they tackle educational assignments including English and Social Studies curriculum. If your student has been invited, please encourage them to attend and support them in their efforts to go.
Our next HLNE activity is on November 12th at the Eccles Theater in Salt Lake for the musical Suffs. We will be inviting students next week and if your student is invited we hope you can support them in attending. We leave Summit at 5:30pm and arrive back around 10:30pm. Dinner is provided along with snacks for the show. It is free of charge for all students.
Term 3 ends on Friday November 14th.
Term 4 starts on Monday November 17th.
Thanksgiving break starts on Wednesday November 26th and we return to school Monday December 1st.
General Items
Thank you to everyone who participated in our parent teacher conferences on October 22nd. We had nearly 100 students/parents/family in the building that night to meet with teachers, staff and community outreach personnel.
Our next SCC/LIA meeting is on Thursday November 20th from 1pm-2pm at Summit High. It is an open meeting and anyone is welcome to attend. Thank you to our SCC members who serve diligently each year.
We have had some shuffling of staff at Summit this school year. Rob Eastmond, who was our amazing Robotics and Computer Science teacher, was able to take a dream job at a different location. We will miss Rob and all he brings, but welcome Kyle Cook to our staff. He teaches Science and will be a great addition to our staff.
Thanks for all you do to help your students find success in school and in life!
