Mountaineer Minute March 21, 2023

Happy Spring! Although the weather sure doesn’t feel like spring, the calendar says we are now in spring. At least the sun is staying up longer at night. We hope that things are going well for everyone as we continue to plug along in the school year. We are 40 school days away from our graduation ceremony. Thank you for everything you are doing to aid your students in their schooling this year.

Celebrations
Congratulations to our graduates from term 6: Abi Bronson, Luis Ochoa, Natalie Peterson, Jonathan Rangel, Barby Robles, and Hans Veil. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in these students’ graduation. It was great to see another set of students who have overcome adversity and challenges in their lives achieve this milestone. We are excited to celebrate with them in May at the graduation ceremony. This brings our total this year to 26 graduates, with another 8-11 more hopefully that will graduate by the end of the school year.

Congratulations to the following students who have earned a 4.0 for term 6: Kiera Bourgoin, Abi Bronson, Ceres Brooks, Eve Hicken, Nick Jepperson, Alex Larsen, Danny Maldonado Grant, Trinity Osmond, Riker Martinez, Chris Rodriguez, Frankie Romero, Will Saldarriaga, Kaylee Shapley, Madeline Simnitt, Jaycie Tiberi, Jack Veil, and Joseph Yates-Poff.

Calendar Items

We are continuing our weekly after school activities: climbing on Tuesday’s and bowling on Thursdays. Each activity is over at 3:30pm and students must find their own transportation home from Summit. If you have a student attend any of these activities, please be prompt in your arrival for pickup so staff do not have to stay longer than necessary awaiting the ride of a few students. We appreciate your efforts in supporting our students to attend these fun after school activities.

As we move into spring, we will be starting golf as an after school activity. We typically run this activity on Friday afternoons and take students to the driving range. With the weather being cold, we will let you and students know when these activities will be starting.
Additionally, fly fishing will be returning this spring. Our counselor Tanner Renshaw, runs the fly fishing club and typically takes students during the school day.

The ACT and Aspire test will be happening at Summit High on Wednesday. Seniors that day will have a special class while the other students are testing. The school day start and end times along with bus routes will not be altered.

Friday after school is a TGIS-N world foods activity. This activity will go until 3:15pm and anyone is welcome to bring a dish to share from around the world. Students do not need to bring an item to attend and participate in the activity.

Next Monday, March 27th we have an HLNE activity to the Jazz basketball game vs the Suns. We will be sitting in the Ford Fan Zone, so everyone who attends will have access to all you can eat hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, ice cream and soda, in addition to watching a great basketball game against a great team. We will be high fiving the team on the court prior to the game at 6:30pm with the game starting at 7pm.

Next Tuesday, March 28th is Parent Teacher Conferences at Summit High until 6pm. Teachers will be reaching out to parents via email, text, or phone call, to schedule a time to come visit. Please help our teachers who reach out by responding to their communication and set up a time where you can attend the conference. We will provide Chick Fil A sandwiches, sides and drinks at Summit for all who attend the conferences. In addition, there will be community resources in the school available to speak with regarding opportunities for students while in high school and after they graduate. We hope to see everyone at Parent Teacher Conferences next Tuesday. If you have questions please reach out to Dan via email or on the phone.

Spring break is April 3-7. There will be no school that week.

Wednesday April 12th is an HLNE activity to Hairspray the musical at the Eccles Theater in Salt Lake.

April 18-20 will be a Clear Creek trip.

Monday April 24th is a non-student, teacher workday. There is no school that day for students.

Term 7 ends Friday April 21st and term 8 starts Tuesday April 25th.

Thanks for all you do to help your students find success in school and in life!
