Mountaineer Minute

Welcome to another year at Summit. Those of you that have been involved with Summit in the past know that the Mountaineer Minute is our way of communicating directly to parents and other stakeholders regarding important items happening at Summit. In the email we share celebrations, provide upcoming calendar items and other general items of interest we think you should know. Typically this email is sent each month and at other times as needed.

We are rolling along at Summit with our first month and first term in the books. We appreciate all that you do to aid your students in their educational endeavors

Celebrations

Congratulations to our graduates for term 1: Deagon Wilkin, Connor Maddocks, and Jaicee Harrop.

The official graduation rates for the 2022-2023 school year will be published on October 1st. Summit is projected to have nearly an 80% graduation rate which will be one of the highest in the history of Summit. More importantly we will have graduated 43 total students for the school year. These 43 students may not have graduated if they had not attended Summit. Thank you to everyone who played a role in helping each of these students find success in school and accomplish such an amazing goal.

Congratulations to our 4.0 students for term 1: Kylie Aust, Brandon Best, Camryn Bird, Ryker Byran, Kayden DeVore, Miracle Fernandez, Milan Guerrero-Silva, Angel Hert, Madelynn Jewett, Lizzy Linder, Danyelle Maldanado-Grant, Kaiden Mitchell, Braxton Trickler, Dexter Truss, Lyrica Van de Graaf, Hiram Werner, and Joseph Yates-Poff.

Congratulations to our honor roll students for term 1: Makayla Anderson, Peter Bell, Alex Cruz, Caitlin Fowles, Elizabeth Fowles, Omar Gonzalez, Jailynn Grant, Braysen Hills, Roy Hoover, Liam Kirkham, Damien Maloney, Cooper Maurer, Isabelle McCleery, Carlee Moosman, Kyra Neff, Rylie Nice, Nathan Purcell, Noah Reinhart, Lindamae Rodriguez, Diego Rodriguez Iniguez, Joyce Scott, Jill Searle, Amalek Sepulvada Lopez, Kobe Seymour, Julissa Vazquez, William Webber, Deagon Wilkin, and Dominic Yeaman.

This represents 45 of Summit’s 114 students or 40% of our student population. Thank you to everyone who has had a hand in helping these students achieve success in their academic progress. For many of our students, they have never dreamed of being on the honor roll in their previous schools and are now finding success in school, which will hopefully snowball into future success in life.

Calendar

Term 1 ended on Friday September 15th and term 2 started Monday September 18th. This term runs until October 18th.

This year we are continuing to have after school bowling each Thursday. All students are invited to attend free of charge with transportation provided to and from Summit to the activity, but students must be picked up at 3:30pm at Summit High. If you would like your student to attend please have them bring home a permission form to be signed.

Tomorrow, September 21st will be our first school community council and local interagency meeting at Summit High at 1pm.

Next week is Summit Creed Week. If you are unfamiliar with our student creed I am attaching a copy of it to this email. During creed week we have dress up days during school along with lunchtime activities. We cook breakfast for the entire school, half on Tuesday and the other half on Thursday. All of our activities center around the student creed. In classes, teachers are emphasizing the student creed and giving incentive to memorize some or all of the creed. This creed has been in place at Summit for nearly 2 decades and creed week is a great time for us to remind students why we place an emphasis on the values within the creed.

Friday September 29th we will be taking students to Classic Skating in Orem after school. This activity is open to all students and is free of charge. If your student would like to attend, please have them pick up a permission form in the office to be signed. This activity will be repeated once each month throughout the year.

Our fly fishing club has begun and the first excursion will be Thursday October 5th. If your student has been invited, please sign the permission form and encourage them to attend.

Friday October 6th is a teacher workday in the Alpine School District. There will be no school for students that day.

October 11-12 is an overnight trip to clear creek educational camp in Scofield. This is a Summit tradition dating back over 4 decades. Clear Creek is one of the activities spoken highly of by all who attend each year and because we cannot take everyone in the school, if your student is invited, please encourage them to attend and provide a way to make it happen.

Thursday and Friday, October 19th-20th is fall break. There will be no students in the building those days along with Monday October 23nd which is a Professional Development day for all teachers in the Alpine School District. School will resume Tuesday October 24th.

Thanks for all you do to help your students find success in school and in life!
